The atelier

Visit the atelier and discover a secular tradition

It is possible to enter Arte Barsanti’s atelier, a real “natural museum”, and to discover the one and only manufacturer of Tuscan-style Nativity made with plaster figures. Visitors will get to know the whole productive process that exists behind each figure, by following a guided tour of the 27 rooms where casting, refining and colouring take place, together with the room of the casts and models dating back from 1900s.

Finally, visitors will be able to attend the spectacular “garret Nativity”: 40 square-meters of characters in a typical Tuscan setting, accompanied by an atmospheric music, from sunrise to night. You can choose between two types of guided tours to the Nativity and religious figures atelier:

Standard Tour:
Simone will guide you through the 27 rooms to discover the history, the production and the anecdotes of the world’s most famous Arte Barsanti figures, which even Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and many others have had. The tour will end in the garret, where you will admire a spectacular Nativity scene of our production. This tour will last approximately 45 minutes.

Contributing Tour:
This tour will be the same as the Standard Tour, plus the possibility to see the making of a figure on the spot and a final gift: a hand-made Nativity figure signed by Simone Fiori. This tour will last approximately 1 hour.

The workshop is very old, so it is impossible to make it accessible to the physically impaired. In order to book a visit, you must send an email, specifying the number of visitors and the type of tour you wish to do.

Manufacturing the figures

Arte Barsanti has been manufacturing plaster figures since 1900, always following the methods handed down from generation to generation. We invite you to discover how our plaster figures are born.
